Don't Wait, Pick up the Weights!

by Megan

While browsing the internet the other day I came across an article that caught my eye: The Benefits of Pumping Iron in Later Life. I recommend you read the whole article but to sum it up for you if you’re short on time, here is a great quote “It’s way more dangerous to not be active as an older adult”, from Miriam Webster, professor at Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston. I just love that quote. I remember working with older clients, in their 60s and late 70s years ago and I had them training with weights (or bodyweight) three days a week and after 12 weeks, they had all gotten stronger and were using heavier weights and they felt great, no injuries.

For people who don’t want to add in strength training because they feel they have gotten this far in life without it I ask, do you prepare financially for retirement? If so, I’d consider planning physically as well so you can actual have a good quality of life to best enjoy your retirement!

Intrigued and ready to pick up those weights? Proper form is important so it may be wise to meet with a certified trainer the first time. However, if you feel a little more comfortable with weights, click here for some tips.
