Time and Making The Most Of It

by Sarah
Time! We never seem to have enough of it. With only 24 hours in a day, how can we make the most of it? With the changing seasons and the school year about to start, time management is important now more than ever.

In today's world, there are many things that save us time such as cell phones, computers, microwaves, online bill paying and shopping to name a few. Yet, we still find ourselves running short on time! Time management is a skill that can be developed. Those that are successful with time management MAKE time for tasks rather than FIND time to complete them.

So how can you make the most of your time?

Plan your day and/or week

Look at the day or week ahead to help manage many tasks over a longer period of time. Also, plan time for self-care for things like exercise, making meals, and relaxation.

Prioritize your tasks

List your tasks and prioritize them on a scale of 1-3.
  • 1--needs immediate attention
  • 2--needs attention, but isn't a pressing task
  • 3--needs to be completed but is not immediate. It could be completed within a few days to weeks.

Limit multi-tasking

Focus on one task at a time. This will allow you to check items off faster than if you are working on multiple items at once.

Make appointments with yourself

You are more likely to stick to your plan if tasks are thought of like appointments. For example, if you want to go for a walk today, schedule it on your planner. That way other tasks can wait while you have your "appointment".

Know your most productive time

You know yourself better than anyone! Determine which time of day you are most productive and use this to your advantage.

There are many calendars and apps that allow you to manage your time better. Another way to keep your tasks visible is to write them down on paper. Find what method works best for you and stick with it!

Be well,
Sarah
