Tik Tok Made Me Do It

by Melissa

Admittedly I have joined the Tik Tok train and I am not sorry! I thought it would be a fun little escape to watch funny videos or learn new trends and dances, but little did I know there is a whole plethora of healthy living tips and tricks on Tik Tok that I have found and am loving!

I wanted to share a few recipes that I have used in my daily life that I picked up from Tik Tok!

Everything bagel Mini Peppers

It seems like everyone is talking about this trend, but if you have not heard of it, the idea is simple.  Slice mini peppers in half, spread some cream cheese (I have been loving the lightened up whipped version for this) and then sprinkle on some everything bagel seasoning (I buy this at Aldi.)

Baked Oats

Baked oats are a little more calorically dense, but they sure keep me full for a long time.  I usually need a mid-morning snack, but on days that I make baked oats I am full for hours longer than normal.  The recipe I make has 340 calories, and take about 30 minutes to make total, so I recommend making a few on the weekends or when you are off of work so you have some ready to go for your work days. Trust me on this, you want to take the time to make this one!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Baked Oats

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Blend Together:

  • ½ cup oats

  • ½ banana

  • 1 egg white

  • 1 tbsp PB2 (powdered peanut butter)

  • ¼ tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • ¼ cup almond milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla

Pour in an oven-safe bowl and top with 1 tbsp chocolate chips. Bake for 20 minutes.

Tomato Feta Pasta

This one took over Tik Tok a few weeks ago and its easy to see why, it is simple, and inexpensive and tastes so good! I Lightened my version up by using half the amount of pasta and adding in spaghetti squash.  Check out the recipe below.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

To a 9x13 pan, add:

  • Olive oil

  • 1 package grape tomatoes

  • 1 block feta cheese

  • 1 lb slice mushrooms

  • Basil-to taste

  • Salt-to taste

  • Pepper-to taste

Next, you want to prepare a spaghetti squash by cutting it in half lengthwise and deseeding it. Coat the edges with olive oil and place it face down on a pan.

Place both pans in the oven for 40 minutes.

While that is baking, prepare half of a package of pasta of your choice.

Once your pans are out of the oven, use a fork to pull the spaghetti squash out of its shell. Add the squash to the pan with tomatoes and feta as well as your pasta. Stir it all up until the feta is incorporated and enjoy!
