Staying Fit and Healthy During Vacation

A healthy lifestyle can be a real struggle when put into situations with lots of temptations, and little to no healthy choices. Just last week I was put into a situation where I was not aware of what food or drinks would be available, so I knew I would have to make quick, smart decisions that would not hinder my waistline, or my fun!

 

In the summer, we absolutely love to spend time on the lake. Most of the time, being at the lake involves good drinks and great food, but that can also mean unhealthy options. Usually I try to stay prepared, but when I am not in control of what is being made or brought, it can be difficult…

 

Exhibit A-When I opened our cooler last weekend at the lake; this is what I found…

 

Quite a delicious spread, however, no water, or healthy options!! Before we headed out on the pontoon, I made a point to grab some waters, and some sprite zeros to be sure that we stayed hydrated.

 

Exhibit B-This was the food that was bought at the grocery store before we left…

 

Clearly I did not check-in, nor did I prepare for my weekend at the lake. This meant that I was going to have to work with what I had on hand!

 

For breakfast every day I chose a hardboiled egg and an apple. For lunch I had brought a salad with, so I ate that, and I allowed myself to indulge at dinner with a brat and of course a roasted marshmallow! I opted out of the s ‘more because I was still full from dinner!

 

If you want to focus on staying healthy while on vacation, it is all about will power and motivation. You can still indulge in your favorite things, but it all comes down to how much you allow yourself to indulge. Vacation also means delicious food that you may not normally have available, for those, I allow myself small servings, and stick to mostly healthy options for breakfast and lunch!

 

When I go on vacation, I certainly allow myself more adult beverages than I may normally have, but I try to drink plenty of water, to balance it out.

 

I also make time for exercise while on vacation, even if it is a just a walk, or a few strengthening exercises, it is important that your body get the movement it needs to stay in shape!
