Hacks to Make Life Easier

by Joanna

Life is complicated; the days are too short, there is too much to be done, and we have too much stuff.  Enter “hacks”.  I thought everyone knew what “hacks” were, but I heard someone ask the other day “what’s a hack?”  Hacks are tips, tricks, and shortcuts for making your life easier, less complicated, or more efficient.  I’m pretty sure it started out with life hacks, but then branched off into more specific categories like the ones below.  Some are “that trick has been around forever” and others are “oh my gosh, I never thought of that – brilliant!”

  1. Food Hacks – Obviously some of these are not “healthy” food hacks.  Ignore those.  Check out #19 – what a great way to have one container and no soggy lettuce!  And I already printed out #22 and posted it in my kitchen.  Life = easier.   If you are a fan of Alton Brown like I am, check out some of his genius here.

  2. Cleaning Hacks – My personal favorite is #13 for cleaning my blender from daily smoothies (2 cups spinach, 1 banana, 1 cup frozen fruit, 1/2 cup milk – blend).  I’m not so sure about #20…. If you’ve tried it and it works, let me know.

  3. Hairstyling Hacks – Oh for Pete’s sake, a hairstyling hack in a wellness blog?  YES. I had to include this hack because #24 has changed my life.  You always hear people saying that you shouldn’t wash your hair everyday because it dries it out, blah, blah, blah.  HOWEVER, it’s impossible to skip washing after exercise.  So on the days after I skip cardio, #24 saves me so much time and hassle.

  4. Camping Hacks – This you might have to file under “seasonal” but a lot of these hacks are brilliant.  The next time I go camping, I’m going to try #37.  To see how these actually faired in the real world, check out The Camping Family.  The woman behind the blog tested these camping hacks and give her final verdicts on whether they are useful or not.

  5. Weight Loss Hacks – I don’t know if I would consider these “hacks” but more like good advice - all of them.

  6. Life Hacks – Last but not least.  Some of these are a bit ridiculous, but I’m sure you can find one or two that make you say “hmmm.  I should try that.”

Do you have any favorites? Which have you tried or want to try? My favorite is the labeled bread clips to identify cords. It has saved me a lot anguish when deciding which cord to unplug!
