If you are like me, you tend to graze on food periodically throughout the day. I have mid-morning munchies, after lunch munchies and sometimes even “I’m driving home from work” munchies. I prefer to eat smaller portion snacks and meals rather than gorging three times a day. But hey, you have to suit yourself and your hunger! Finding snacks that are easy to prep and healthy can seem like a daunting task, but it may be a lot easier than you think!
Here are five snacks that are 100 calories or less (just watch your portions!)
- Half a baked potato with salsa
Microwave a medium size potato (80 calories) for an easy snack that’s loaded with Vitamin C. Keep the skin on since it is packed with nutrients and spread a tablespoon of salsa on top of it for a satisfying snack!
- Apple slices with peanut butter
Mixing sweet and salty can be the perfect treat. Measure ¾ cup of apple slices and spread a small amount of unsalted peanut butter on each slice. To stay at 100 calories or less, only use 2 tablespoons or less of peanut butter.
- Eight baby carrots with hummus
If you are in the mood for some crunch, try this tasty treat! Take 8 baby carrots and dip them into two tablespoons of hummus. Carrots are high in beta-carotene and Vitamin A, and the hummus adds protein. There are numerous varieties of hummus such as roasted red pepper, olive, garlic, sundried tomato, and more so go and find your flavor!
- Cottage cheese and cantaloupe
Enjoy a ½ cup of cottage cheese and a slice of cantaloupe to amp up your protein intake. Similar to fiber, protein will help keep you feeling full, longer.
- Six cups microwave popcorn
If you are looking for a large snack with a low calorie count, popcorn is your go to food! Certain microwaveable brand popcorn bags only have 100 calories!
I am always looking for more and new snack options to curb my appetite. Do you have any suggestions for healthy snacks? Feel free to share your ideas or recipes.
