A Simple Way To Build Healthy Habits

by Megan

Sometimes it may seem like there is just too much information aimed at keeping someone "healthy."

Just in the last three days I have heard people referencing the Keto diet, Intermittent Fasting, carbohydrate cycling and a debate on whether or not you should do steady state cardio or HIIT (high intensity interval training.)

My advice for the last one there--do both!

I understand why people can get really frustrated when they are trying to make healthier habits, it can seem like you get conflicting pieces of advice. That's why I was really excited when someone mentioned "5-2-1-0" to me.

It looks like this initiative was started to help parents raise healthier kids, but honestly, it seems like great advice for people of all ages.

The best part? It really simplifies things.

5210 stands for:

5-Eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day
2-Limit your screen time to 2 hours a day or less. This doesn't mean your computer at work or school, but rather the recreational time spent on a tablet, smart phone or television.
1-Get 1 hour or more of physical activity each day.
0-Limit or eliminate sugary drinks to 0 a day.

So, if you are wanting to live a healthy lifestyle but don't want to drive yourself crazy, start with 5210. Introduce it to your household, make it a challenge for all family members. Let me know how this goes!
